현재 보스톤의 컨티뉴엄(Continuum)에서 리드 제품디자이너이며, T.A.K studio의 공동설립자로 28개 이상의 국제 디자인 어워드 수상경력을 가지고 있다. 컨티뉴엄에서 MIT Media Lab과 공동작업한 One Laptop Per Child (2005) 와 LFC sport wheelchair(2011) 는 IDSA Award 은상, Red Dot, Spark Award 금상, Design of the Decade 동상 Bronze Award등을 포함 해서 다수의 수상을 하였다. 현재 LFC는 비엔나의 MAK Museum에서 전시중이다.
2006년부터 UX 디자이너 강신현과 함께 T.A.K. 스튜디오를 함께 설립하여 공동 작업한 Sustainable 디자인 컨셉 프로젝트, Ubicycle(2006), Cyclink(2009), 과 T-Bike(2010)는 Spark Award 대상, IDEA Award 동상, Red Dot Award, I.D. Annual Review 등 많은 수상을 하였으며, Innovation PC 매거진과 Metropolis 매거진, I.D. 매거진등에 소개되었다.
Jung Geun Tak is an award-winning designer and co-founder of T.A.K. Studio. His innovative designs have garnered more than 27 awards, including 9 IDEA, 5 Spark, and 2 Red Dot awards. Since 2005, he has worked on innovative products and concept projects at the Design Continuum in Boston, where he worked on the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project in the MIT media lab and received numerous accolades, including the IDSA Design of the Decade Bronze award in 2010 and the IDEA Silver award in 2006.
Mr. Tak has been on the concept project team with Ms. Kang at T.A.K. Studio since 2006. T.A.K. Studio’s sustainable design concepts have won numerous awards and have been reviewed in Innovation, PC Magazine, Metropolis Magazine, and ID Magazine. Ubicycle was the first bike-sharing plan developed for American commuters in 2006. The second bike-sharing concept design, Cyclink, won a special prize from the City of Copenhagen in 2009. T-Bike was born a year later, in 2010, for the city of Seoul. The public bike-sharing ideas have been developed to meet regions’ unique needs.
Currently serving as Lead Designer for this lever-powered, wheelchair-based mobility aid; instrumental in envisioning chair design. Recipient of the Spark Gold award, 2010, IDEA bronze award, 2011, and Red dot, 2011.
당신의 직업을 선택한 배경 및 계기?
11년전 미국으로 건너와 R.I.T (Rochester Institute of Technology의 MFA 과정 중에 진행했던 Social innovation이나 Sustainable Future에 관련된 디자인경험을 바탕으로, 현재 global innovation and design consultancy인 Continuum에서 Sr. Industrial Designer로서 창작활동을 하게 되었습니다.
자신만의 작업방식은?
Concept project를 진행 할 때, 주로 News와 Documentary에서 소개되는 이슈들을 관심있게 봅니다. 그 중 디자이너로서 해결이 가능한 주제를 발견하면, 관련된 정보를 수집하고 함축적인 단어나 이미지로 기억해 둡니다. 평범한 일상 속에서 문득 해답의 실마리를 떠오르면, 곧바로 작업을 시작합니다.
영감은 어디/무엇에서 받는지?
영감은 착각과 자각의 경계에서 오는 것 같습니다. 사소한 일상에서 쉽게 지나치는 행동이나 사물들이 어느날 낮설게 느껴지는 경험들을 해 본적이 있을 것입니다. 그러한 느낌에서 뜻하지 않은 영감을 얻게됩니다.
창작인으로서 가장 중요하다고 생각하는 것
창작인에게 호기심과 상상력이 가장 중요하다고 생각합니다. 호기심은 상상력을 유발시키고 상상력은 끊임없는 창작의 재료가 되니까요.
창작인으로서의 목표
What’s next? 라는 질문을 들을 때 이야기꾼들은 신명이 납니다. 다음 작품이 기대가되는 흥미 진진한 이야기와 같은 작품들을 만들어 가고 싶습니다.
